We realize that art grants often ask you to jump through a few hoops, and make you do things that you normally wouldn’t do. So when constructing our new Arbitrary Art Grant in dance, it just seemed to make sense to ask you to dance like you were being shot at. Bang! Bang! Bang! Dance I said! Bang, bang, bang! Let’s see those feet move! Like in Bugs Bunny cartoons. Like in spaghetti westerns. But put the task in front of artists, and I think a whole new interpretation of “dance like you are being shot at” will emerge. That is the only direction that we are giving, and we look forward to your entries. To maximize public access and ease of submitting, please create your video and post directly to Youtube. If you title your video piece “Arbitrary Art Grant in Dance” we will find you. You are always welcome to burn it onto a dvd and mail us a copy, if that makes more sense. And lastly, this is an international art grant, open to all people in all places, that can get their hands on a video camera. Good luck, and please, stay away from REAL guns. In no way are we asking you to shoot at each other. Just in case you were wondering.

Performance Art Grant – Mission Accomplished!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Congratulations Garrett Hobba! And thank you all for coming out strong on Friday. It was a fantastic evening and your creativity and chants were exceptional. For those still wondering exactly how this $500.00 cash grant was given awarded, we had a gun scope set up, focused on a predetermined target against the wall of On The Boards. At 7:47 pm, we peered into the scope and saw Garrett’s “Performance Art is Un-American” sign, smack in the middle. We would have liked to used a paint gun, but safety got the best of us. Now we must zip along to the next art grant…
