With large crystal chandeliers, velvet drapes and a dark mahogany bar, The Hideout looks like an elegant 1920s speakeasy. With over 70 paintings hung salon style on two opposing, expansive walls, The Hideout looks like a French salon from the 1800s. The Hideout’s black velvet curtains and discreet gold leaf lettering make it a destination for the curious urban adventurer. The Hideout is many things, but first and foremost it is a haven for artists and an alcohol-fueled cultural center.
Jeff Scott and Greg Lundgren teamed up to create an elegant lounge that highlights the talents of Pacific Northwest artists and serves as a dark, sexy refuge for evening socializing and cultural exploration. We also offer a free quarterly magazine called The Vital 5 Review, a contemporary arts and culture journal contributed exclusively by the patrons of The Hideout. We converted a jukebox into a miniature gallery, housing 100 original illustrations, prints and paintings. The jukebox has since been replaced by Earl 3.0, a robotic art dispenser, which continues the tradition of instant gratification. Earl not only contains paintings, photography and prints, but also stories, crafts, music and curious gifts. It's a one-stop shop for any occasion.
Behind the velvet curtains exists a hidden stash of brilliant paintings, excellent drinks and curious patrons. Employing “discreet theatre,” one never knows for certain if the patrons are real or staged, if their conversations and interactions are spontaneous or premeditated. Step inside and have a drink, absorb the art-saturated walls, find a unique treasure in Earl 3.0, flirt, mingle, write, draw or just free fall into the idea that life is a performance and you can be anything you want -- just like your parents said. You must be at least 21 to enter and open-minded to stay. Five years may seem like a long run for an art piece, but we just view it as the latest chapter in Vital 5 history. We hope you can join us.
