In Your Face was a collection of full-scale, free standing portraits mixing Coney Island fun with dark and challenging audience interaction. The intense psychological content of the paintings reflect acute moments in life where secrets are revealed, privacy is invaded and disturbing truths revealed. They are places both familiar and horrifying, comedic yet disturbing.
Inspired by an old photograph of a Coney Island circus sideshow, Jason Puccinelli was immediately drawn to the interactive elements of the paintings and the potent psychological response they could evoke. Instead of stepping up and poking your head into a painting of a muscle man with a bikini clad girlfriend, Jason envisioned scenes of drug abuse and war, of sexual deviance and contemplated suicides. The resulting work balances on the thin line of a tight rope - where great humor and fun emerge from a powder keg of emotionally charged images.
